New Books this Spring that I’m Excited to Read

This post may contain affiliate links; please read my disclosure policy.

I usually scour Goodreads and various Instagram accounts for what’s new. I love Goodreads to track what I’ve read and see other reader’s reviews. Instagram is great, when you find book-related accounts that match your preferences. Here’s a list of new books that I’m excited to read that are being released this spring, or at least within the first few months of 2022. I read some in March, if you’re interested in a more detailed review. I included a few words describing why each book stood out to me and why I’m excited to read them. Happy reading! xo

New Books being Released this Spring

Real Easy

by Marie Rutkoski

The cover art of this book doesn’t give much aways. So, naturally I’m intrigued. I’ve read my fair share of thrillers and mysteries but the setting of this story was a new one for me. Also, my curiosity got the best of me since this one is a debut novel.

Reckless Girls

by Rachel Hawkins

Hawkins has been around for a while, but last year I read my first book by her, The Wife Upstairs and loved it. Most of her other books seem more geared towards the young adult genre, so I haven’t read others, but I couldn’t wait to read this one. I didn’t even bother to read the description, I just started reading it.

The Maid

by Nita Prose

I came across this one on Instagram. This is Prose’s debut novel. The cover art doesn’t give much away, but the description states that the story is about a woman who is on her own for the first time and working as a hotel maid. She struggles with social skills. One day on the job, she enters a room to clean and is greeted with the body of an infamous man. Thanks to her personality, she’s the lead suspect. I can’t wait to get this one and see what happens with the case and to the maid.

A Flicker in the Dark

by Stacy Willingham

Another debut novel! Missing girls, a serial killer, and a cold case – of course I need to read this one. Chloe’s father is arrested for murdering six local girls when she was young. Now, a psychologist who has moved on with her life, Chloe is getting ready for her wedding. Then, a local girl goes missing and all of the fears and emotions from the first case return. How can I not want a copy?

Reminders of Him

by Colleen Hoover

Is it just me or is Colleen Hoover having a moment? It seems everyone I know is reading one of her books, which leads to reading many of her books. I read, and loved, It Ends with Us last year. Hoover has a ton of books I want to read eventually. Reminders of Him is her newest this year, so of course I need to read it first.

Lease on Love

by Falon Ballard

I don’t normally read romance stories, but I love a good roommate, turned friends (with sexual tension) story. Even reading the book description, I’m rooting for Sadie and Jack. Every once in a while I like to switch up the thrillers with something lighthearted. I think this would be a great one for that!

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead

by Elle Cosimano

I really enjoyed Cosimano’s first installment in the Finlay Donovan series, and naturally I had to see what she would do about the note she received at the end asking her to murder her ex-husband.

Homicide and Halo-Halo

by Mia P. Manansala

I don’t normally start series, since I like to try various authors but I read Manansala’s first installment in the Tita Rosie’s Kitchen series last year and just like good old Finlay, I had to see what Lila was up to. A lighthearted, easy-to-read mystery means this one earned a spot on my spring reading list.

The Paris Apartment

by Lucy Foley

Last year, I read The Guest List and The Hunting Party. Both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. I can’t wait to read Foley’s next novel, which based on the other two is enough for me. Don’t even care what it’s about, I’m going to read it.

One Italian Summer

by Rebecca Serle

I loved Serle’s book In Five Years, and this one seems like it will have some of the same time-traveling / dreaming aspects. And, it should be a nice feel-good story to mix up the mysteries and thrillers.

The Night Shift

by Alex Finlay

Starting in 1999, four Blockbuster employees are attacked late one night and only one survives. Fast forward fifteen years, four ice cream shop employees are attacked late at night and again only one survives. The survivor of the original crime, the brother of the suspect and the FBI agent on the current case’s lives all intersect. I really enjoyed Finlay’s book Every Last Fear, so I can’t wait to start this one.

The Books of Cold Cases

by Simone St. James

I loved James’ novel, The Sun Down Motel which was enough for me to add this to my spring list.

The Younger Wife

by Sally Hepworth

I enjoyed Hepworth’s books The Mother-in-Law and The Family Next Door, so I’m curious to read her newest novel this spring.

Portrait of a Thief

by Grace D. Li

I love heist movies, so when I read this book’s description and saw that it’s about an art heist that is inspired by the true story of Chinese art vanishing from Western museums, I had to add it to my reading list.

Insomnia

by Sarah Pinborough

Pinborough’s novel Behind Her Eyes (better than the show – sorry not sorry) was captivating enough to make me want to read her latest novel.

I’ll Be You

by Janelle Brown

A story about twin sisters who grow apart until one disappears and the other is forced to confront the secrets they both kept. I love a good sister drama, so this one should be good.

The Children on a Hill

by Jennifer McMahon

I think I saw this one on Instagram, or at least an anticipated new novel list somewhere. The description says it’s inspired by Frankenstein, which isn’t something that would normally catch my eye but I like to switch things up every now and then. In the 1970’s a doctor working with the mentally ill brought a child home to stay with her and her grandchildren. The three children have a monsters club. Fast forward to the present day, a podcaster travels to follow the story of a missing girl because she knows monsters exist. I can’t wait to see how this story pans out.

My Summer Darlings

by May Cobb

I read The Hunting Wives by Cobb last year and loved it, so this one has to be on my list. Three friends and a new hot stranger in town, what could go wrong?
